Featured Website: Hands On Plastics

Chemistry Last month we were contacted by the webmaster of a new science education website entitled Hands on Plastics. After ordering one of their science kits, and looking over their website, we thought this site would be of interest to the CETP's and worth a posting on Ecept. Click the link below for the announcement submitted by the Hands on Plastics webmaster. We have also invited their webmaster to participate on Ecept, so if you have any questions about the site, please post them, and you should get a response from their webmaster.

I would like to introduce a brand new educational website designed to help and train middle-school teachers in science instruction: Hands On Plastics The website builds on the popular Hands On Plastics Science Investigation kit, which has helped more than 25,000 teachers engage middle-school students in interactive science activites for over six years. Teachers will find interactive lesson plans and activites that encourage inquiry-based learning in a stimulating, scientific environment.

Hands On Plastics has been developed by the National Middle Level Science Teachers Association (NMLSTA), and meets several of the recommendations set forth by the National Research Council in their National Science Education Standards (NSES).

Available from the site at no cost are kits containing a CD-ROM with background information on plastics and interactive lesson plans, as well as a large selection of plastic resin samples for use in the classroom. If you are interested in ordering a FREE Hands on Plastics kit, visit our online order form.

While the kit and website are geared toward middle-school students, they can easily be adapted for high school and upper elementary levels. Hands On Plastics is an exciting way of teaching chemistry principles in a novel, interactive manner. Be sure to check it out!
