The following questions relate to a methods course that I am taking at the University of North Florida. It should take less than 5 minutes to answer the questions. I thank any and all who will give input into this part of the course. I am posting the questionnaire on 02/13/01. I need a response by 02/15/01.
1. What high school mathematics classes do you teach (e.g., Algebra I, Geometry, Precalculus)
2. What mathematics (academic) standards do you use to determine the content coverage and depth of coverage for one of the classes you teach? In other words, if you teach ?Geometry,? what standards (or expectations) do you use to guide curriculum development, instruction, and assessment?
a. How is the student?s letter grade at the completion of the course related to the stated course expectations?
b. Are there comparisons made of the indicators of mathematics achievement in that course with the achievement of students studying that same subject matter in another teacher?s class?
c. At your school, do the teachers of a course all use the same set of standards, or do the teachers select their own?
d. At your school, are there any common assessments given to students who take the same course, but who have different teachers?
4. How closesly do the teachers in the school adhere to the stated standards?
5. Where can I obtain a copy of these standards? Are they on the Internet? If so, what is the URL?
